IRIS costs to double?

by isleofman.com 16th October 2006
The IRIS scheme looks set to double in cost if the Department of Transport proceeds with a major policy change.

Following an independent review of the scheme, DoT minister, Phil Braidwood, is suggesting the north and west of the Island may not link to Meary Veg, but be served by several regional treatment plants.

The consultants point out new modular treatment plants now operate to a high standard, and should be the preferred way ahead.

Pressed on the cost of a policy change, Mr Braidwood suggested the final cost of IRIS might double to around ?160 million.
