Big blow for SOS over Knock Rushen

The long-running saga between a developer and a protest group seems to have reached its final chapter.

Plans by Hartford Homes to build 41 homes at the Castletown beauty spot Knock Rushen have been approved, on appeal.

It’s a serious setback for protest group Save Our Scarlett which has successfully campaigned against development on the land on numerous occasions over the past 13 years, during which time planners and two independent inspectors have consistently turned down applications.

The latest application was also opposed by Castletown Commissioners, and many of the recommendations of the independent inspector who considered the case are based on the 2001 emerging plan, which has not been ratified by Tynwald.

SOS chairman John Cringle believes the application differs little to previous proposals (audio file attached):
