TE Brown room being dismantled

by isleofman.com 12th October 2006
There’s anger after museum chiefs revealed a permanent commemoration to the Manx national poet is to be dismantled.

Work’s begun to convert the TE Brown room at the Manx Museum into a Vikings gallery.

The decision has upset a number of supporters of Brown, including the World Manx Assocation.

The room with its memorial window has celebrated the works of Brown for more than 70 years.

Secretary of the World Manx Society, Hazel Murphy, and local author and biographer of Brown, Derek Winterbottom are disappointed: (first audio clip)

However Dr Andrew Foxon, Head of Professional Services at Manx National Heritage, says the move has been taken for conservation reasons, and the memorial to Brown will be re-sited in a better venue where it can be seen by the public: (second audio clip)
