Petitioner hits out at Chief Constable

A change of culture and a new Chief Constable.

That is what is needed to ensure the Island has a more independent police force, according to a former inspector with Greater Manchester Police, Castletown man Roy Redmayne.

His comments come after a Tynwald select committee, examining the independence of the Island’s police complaints system, heavily criticised the force for their handling of his own complaint.

That included citing unacceptable delays in the investigation process and inadequate supervision of complaints.

And while Mr Redmayne agrees with the committee’s belief that improvements can be made within the current system, he says that can only happen if there are changes at the top level:
