Candidates urged to read report

Douglas town councillors are to have a special meeting to discuss the ideas set out in the recently published report into the structure and scope of the Manx government.

It will give them a chance to consider a number of recommendations relating to local government, including devolving certain functions from central government, and setting up a transitional agency to operate during the interim period.

Leader of the Council, David Christian (pictured) is encouraging all candidates for the general election to read the report, and make their views known.

He says it's an exciting and progressive document and, as the Island's biggest local authority area, he wants Douglas to lead the debate:
