Public Police complaints down

by isleofman.com 10th October 2006
Complaints by the public against members of the Isle of Man Constabulary are down.

The figure for the six months to the end of September fell from 11 to 7, compared to the same period in 2005.

And that was despite a reported one third rise in the productivity of officers.

Superintendent Gary Roberts (pictured) says he and his colleagues are pleased, but they aren't resting on their laurels:

Yesterday it was announced that complaints by five officers against Chief Constable Mike Culverhouse had been found to be without substance.

However, a Tynwald report into complaints against the Manx force by former Greater Manchester police officer Roy Remayne concludes a new system is needed, to make the handling of more serious complaints more prompt, effective and independent.

The report is due to be debated next week.
