A 25 year old man has been jailed for a total of 101 days by the Deputy High Bailiff.

Jonathan Lee Cannell of Coronation Terrace, Braddan, admitted that he breached his community service order.

Cannell was given 180 hours community service on May 26th for driving whilst disqualified, taking a vehicle without the owner's consent, driving without due care, failing to stop after an accident and failing to report it.

Kate Skinner reports

Cannell crashed his ex-girlfriend's car then left the scene.

A probation officer said Cannell had failed to keep several appointments with no reasonable excuse, and had only completed 15 of the 180 hours.

He had been before the court in July for the breach and had been given another chance.

His advocate urged for a final chance to be given to Cannell, who now realised how serious the matter was, but Mr Montgomery refused and said Cannell had been given every opportunity and he had not paid a penny of the ?4000 compensation.

He imposed 80 days custody for the original offences plus a fine of ?250 for the breach of community service or 21 days default, and 7 days for the costs, all to run consecutively, making a total of 101 days.

Mr Montgomery also ordered Cannell to pay the ?4000.
