Corkill trial

by isleofman.com 9th October 2006
Julie Corkill spent most of the day giving evidence at her trial, facing questions from Defence Advocate Dawn Jones.

Mrs Corkill said she did not intentionally mislead the Department of Tourism and Leisure over two unpaid invoices submitted to them.

She also denied any wrongdoing with an alleged false estimate from K and G Construction.

The invoices and estimate relate to work to create tourist accommodation at her home, Ballacain, Onchan.

Mrs Corkill said the estimate had been given to her by contractor Will Kelly but not at her explicit request.

She didn't know what use it would be for her grant application as a workshop conversion it related to was virtually finished by then.

Mrs Corkill also said she didn't think there was a problem submitting the two invoices to the DTL as she had already paid invoices to a sum on which she thought the grant application would be calculated.

She denied initials on one of the invoices had been put there by her to make it look as if it had been paid to the builder and signed off.

The case continues.
