Further improvement in detection rates

Crime detection rates have gone up over ten per cent in the last six months.

The Chief Constable's Annual Report, which covered the period up to March 2006, showed the figure to be 41 per cent.

But, according to Superintendent Gary Roberts, an increase in officer productivity has led to it jumping to 52.5 per cent.

He says it's the highest the rate has been for over a decade and it's down to the fact officers are better supervised, and the force is more open to scrutiny.

Superintendent Roberts is also pleased with the types of crimes being detected:
