Trial hears of quote from non-existant company

by isleofman.com 6th October 2006
The Julie Corkill trial has heard evidence from the Department of Tourism and Leisure's Director of Tourism, Geoff LePage, including a new statement from him.

It concerned a diary entry he made in August 2003 which described a meeting he attended with Mrs Corkill and her husband, former Chief Minister Richard Corkill, on the 29th of that month.

Mr LePage said at the end of the meeting he was handed a quote by Mrs Corkill from K and G Construction.

However, he added that had he known a Mr Gill, whose name appeared on the quote, hadn't prepared it, he wouldn't have accepted it.

The court had previosly heard K and G Construction ceased to exist in the mid 1990s.

Defence advocate Dawn Jones put it to Mr LePage he told the Corkills at the meeting they wouldn't need three quotes for the second phase of work to create tourism accommodation at their Onchan home.

In viw of this she also wanted to know why he thought Mrs Corkill had handed him the K and G quote.

Mr LePage said at the meeting the Corkills were told the decision to waiver the usual three quote requirement hadn't been decided.

He said once waiver approval was granted, in mid September, the K and G quote was never formally submitted, it was just filed as a received document.

The case continues.
