Ireland and the British Isles

In Tynwald-speak we have an "Adjacent Isle", but are we part of the British Isles?

In the Republic of Ireland a company which prints atlases is to remove the term from its books after protests from students, teachers and parents.

They say the word British conjures up images of empire and occupation and as Ireland isn’t British, it shouldn’t be used.

Director of Information at the Celtic League, Bernard Moffatt, says it doesn’t bother him but he’s aware it can be a touchy subject:
