Corkill trial to resume

by isleofman.com 5th October 2006
The trial of Julie Corkill will resume at Douglas courthouse this morning (Wednesday).

Yesterday, the court sat 'in camera' - with the media and public excluded - to determine whether the case could continue in the absence of key prosecution witness Will Kelly.

Kelly will not be well enough to return to court for at least six months, after suffering a heart attack in July.

Mrs Corkill (pictured) denies four counts of false accounting and two of obtaining ?90,000 in tourism grants by deception.

She will continue to stand trial over allegations she included invoices for private work carried out at her Ballacain home and other invoices for work for which builders had not been paid.

Kelly admits a charge of aiding and abetting Mrs Corkill to produce a document required by the Department of Tourism and Leisure.
