Speaker criticises government review

A Charter for Privatisation - that's the verdict of a senior Manx politician to the far-reaching review of government published last week.

Speaker of the House of Keys, Tony Brown, says he's very concerned at the report's underlying theme - that many services currently run by government should be contracted out or 'corporatised'.

Mr Brown says that would simply create companies run by civil servants - and they would no longer be answerable to Tynwald.

And he claims privatisation of operations such as the NSC, the Post Office and the buses would not make them more efficient (audio file attached):
