UK expert to attend pandemic exercise

by isleofman.com 30th September 2006
Key officials, including representatives from government departments, will be taking part in a day-long briefing session next week, as part of the planning for pandemic flu.

They will hear expert advice from the United Kingdom's Emergency Planning Officer for the north west of England, who will be involved in a "table top" exercise to illustrate possible scenarios.

The World Health Organisation says a flu pandemic is likely to happen in the next two to three years and the Manx government says the Island is well ahead of most countries in its planning and preparation.

Friday's gathering will include consideration of a number of Island specific issues, such as the supply of food, fuel and medicines.

The "table top" exercise is being organised by the Island's Acting Director of Public Health, Dr Parameswaran Kishore (pictured).
