Scally Rally

by isleofman.com 29th September 2006
Three students at the Isle of Man College say they had the time of their lives driving an old banger to Madrid in aid of the Manx Anti-Cancer Association.

Andy McKnight, Martin Burns and Andrew Beasley rescued the car from a rusty grave in a Jurby field and drove across France and Spain.

The event saw dozens of vehicles which had to cost less than ?50 taking part.

Andy McKnight said the trip didn’t involve any brushes with the French police – who are notoriously strict about British vehicles – but once they’d arrived at Madrid they almost fell foul of one officer there.

The three friends hope to have raised more than ?1,000.
