Police defend campaign against speeding

Police in the Isle of Man are strongly defending their campaign against speeding on the roads.

It follows a major new report in the UK which cast doubt on the importance of speed as a factor in fatal road accidents.

The latest data suggests poor and inattentive driving is a more important factor.

For a number of years the slogan "Speed Kills" has grabbed the public's attention - while police resources have been spent on speed cameras and anti-speed campaigns.

Inspector Derek Flint says road safety officers are dismayed at any attempt to water-down the anti-speeding message:
