Privatised post offices?

by isleofman.com 29th September 2006
Privatise the Post Office? Well that’s one of the suggestions from the review team looking into the structure and scope of government.

The report published this week suggested the government doesn’t need to be involved in Isle of Man Post and the organisation would be better off in the hands of a private company.

It’s not a new suggestion of course – Tynwald has looked at the idea before and Tourism and Leisure Minister David Cretney says it’s simply not necessary: (audio clip attached)

It's not the only mention of privatisation in the report - if all it's recommendations were to be adopted, the Island's buses would be passed on to the private sector.

Tynwald won't have a chance to discuss the report until after the general election.
