Stadium up for tender

by isleofman.com 29th September 2006
The future use of Jack Nivison Stadium in Onchan Park is finally to be determined.

Stadium owners, Onchan Commissioners, have agreed to put the facility out to tender.

It follows months of speculation.

The current licence holders, which run stock cars and go-karting, want to continue operating, while members of the Cycling Association have met the board on a number of occasions over proposals to create a cycling velodrome.

The commissioners are now seeking expressions of interest from parties wishing to lease part or all of the facilities for a period of up to 21 years from next April.

Meanwhile, the commissioners have said a fond farewell to clerk, Mark Williams, who will officially leave his post today – after 12 years with the local authority.

Mr Williams, who has served 15 months as clerk, had previously been the deputy clerk for 12 years.

Colleagues past and present marked the occasion at a ceremony yesterday afternoon.

Chairman Derek Crellin says he was held in high esteem by colleagues and commissioners alike: (second audio clip)
