Mrs Corkill praised during trial

by isleofman.com 29th September 2006
The Julie Corkill trial has heard a chartered surveyor praise Mrs Corkill’s character.

Chartered Surveyor Geoff McGee said he’d known her for 20 years and in all that time she’d been honest and open.

Mr McGee was giving evidence on the second day of the resumed hearing.

Mrs Corkill denies four charges of false accounting and two of obtaining money by deception in connection with government grants made for holiday accommodation at her Onchan home.

Mr McGee said Mrs Corkill felt she was overcharged for the holiday cottages and he was brought in by the Corkills to clear up the problems.

He added he never felt she was trying to mislead GC construction who oversaw the work or defraud the Department of Tourism and Leisure.

Mr McGee will continue giving evidence this afternoon.
