The Julie Corkill trial has been hearing evidence from quantity surveyor Scott Pringle.
He was brought in by contractors GC Construction to provide initial pricing for work on tourist accommodation at Mrs Corkill’s family home, at Ballacain in Onchan.
The work consisted of a new build of holiday cottages, the conversion of an existing workshop into further holiday accommodation and external work required on the site.
Mr Pringle told the court that from the start he was aware of the nature of the project and all the building works which were required.
However, under intense questioning by defence advocate Dawn Jones, he said the figure he provided to Mrs Corkill for the conversion of the workshop was intended as no more than a guide, and may not have reflected the final cost.
Also this morning the court heard that key prosecution witness Will Kelly, whose heart attack in July led to the adjournment of the case for two months, hopes to be able to resume his evidence on Friday, or next Monday.
There is a possibility a video-link could be use, and all parties have agreed to this suggestion in principle.
Julie Corkill, the wife of former Chief Minister Richard Corkill, denies four charges of false accounting and two of obtaining money by deception, in connection with the payment of government grants towards tourist accommodation work at Ballacain.
Kelly has admitted a charge of aiding and abetting Mrs Corkill (pictured) to produce a document required by the Department of Tourism and Leisure.
