Government restructuring recommendations

An independent committee is suggesting a number of ways in which government in the Isle of Man could be restuctured and streamlined.

A report, containtaining 48 recommendations, has been published, but any Tynwald debate will come after the general election.

Among many other things it suggests establishment of a Department of Corporate Development, and the creation of a Department of Economic Development.

The latter would incorporate the economic development responsibilties of the Department of Trade and Industry, the tourism responsibilities of the Department of Tourism and Leisure and the promotional responsibilities of the Treasury for financial services and e-business.

Chairman of the Scope and Structure of Government review team, former Clerk of Tynwald Robert Quayle, says the range of direct services provided by government has become too wide and too diverse:
