Tributes to Sir Malcolm Arnold

Tribute has been paid to one of the towering figures of 20th century British music, patron of the Manx Youth Orchestra Sir Malcolm Arnold (pictured).

He passed away on Saturday following a brief illness.

Known to many Island youngsters, the Manx Youth Orchestra regularly played his music and he composed the Manx Suite specifically for the orchestra, using material from the Manx national song book.

Fittingly, Arnold conducted its premiere performance at the Villa Marina in 1990.
