Government failing alcoholics claim

by isleofman.com 26th September 2006
The Isle of Man government is failing to provide sufficient care and facilities for alcoholics on the Island.

So says local resident Chris Gosling, whose wife died last week as a result of her alcohol dependency.

He also hit out at shops who continued to serve his wife, despite his requests for them to stop.

Mr Gosling feels relatives of alcoholics should have increased powers of referral, and has called for better facilities to be built: (clip 1)

Consultant Psychiatrist for the DHSS's Drug and Alcohol Team, Doctor Kirsten Wafer, is defending the services on offer.

She says any referrals must have the consent of the individual concerned: (clip 2)
