Asylum update

by isleofman.com 22nd September 2006
A ruling in the Isle of Man’s first asylum case is expected within a fortnight.

Earlier this month, a tribunal sitting in Bradford reserved judgement on whether 39 year-old Bangladeshi national Mohammad Ahmed can stay in Britain.

Mr Ahmed arrived in the Isle of Man a year ago, and was detained in the Island's prison before being sent to a detention centre in Doncaster.

The ruling was initially going to be delivered this week and the delay has prompted suggestions Mr Ahmed’s application is being strongly considered.
