Solway Harvester inquests to conclude in November

The final chapter in the inquiry into the loss of the Solway Harvester is to take place later this year.

Almost seven years after the scallop dredger sank off the Manx coast in appalling conditions, the inquests into the death of the seven crewmen will take place during the week beginning November the 20th.

Provisional dates of September the 27th to the 30th had been allocated but had to be moved due to court availability.

The hearing will be before coroner, Michael Moyle.

Inquests were originally opened after the Manx government paid ?1million to recover the vessel - but have been adjourned ever since, for legal proceedings to go ahead.

Journalist Mike Mackenzie who's reported on the tragedy says it's been a distressing time for the fishing community in the Isle of Whithorn (audio file attached):
