Police volunteers welcomed

by isleofman.com 18th September 2006
The Isle of Man Constabulary is looking to expand the police force by recruiting volunteers.

Chief Constable Mike Culverhouse (pictured) is launching an initiative to find members of the public willing to give up time each month.

They will be encouraged to use their skills to support policing priorities such as extending Police station opening hours, conducting local surveys and developing better communication links with the community.

Mr Culverhouse says he sees the volunteers as providing an extra level of help, rather than replacing any existing positions: (first audio clip)

Speaking on Mandate today (Mon) the Chief Constable says in addition to keeping police stations open longer, there are several key roles which he would like them to fill: (second audio clip)
