No change to drink drive limit

by isleofman.com 15th September 2006
The Department of Transport has decided against lowering the drink drive limit for motorists.

A media statement says evidence in support of a reduction for young drivers, which has recently been widely discussed in the United Kingdom, will be studied.

However, for now the department will concentrate on reducing the number of young drivers stopped and testing positive, of which there were 62 last year.

The statement says the limit, currently set at 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood in the Isle of Man, has been under review for five years.

Transport Minister Phil Braidwood says his priority is reducing the large number of motorists testing positive with a blood/alcohol level significantly above the 80 limit.

But other "high risk" drivers, including young drivers, will continue to be monitored.
