Search for bone marrow under way

by isleofman.com 15th September 2006
The search begins today for a bone marrow donor in the Island who may help save a young man's life.

Stuart Briggs was diagnosed with Leukaemia last year at the age of 17.

There are no matches in the United Kingdom at present and a wider search around Europe for a donor has so far drawn a blank.

Stuart's father has strong links with the Island and which has led to a series of donor recruitment sessions being held in Douglas today and tomorrow.

Speaking from his home in Nottinghamshire, Stuart told Manx Radio he hadn't given up hope (audio file attached):

Today’s sessions are at the probation office meeting room on the second floor of Prospect House on Prospect Hill in Douglas, from 12 noon to 2.00pm and from 4.00pm to 6.00 pm.

Tomorrow’s session is at the surgical out-patients' department on the ground floor of Noble’s hospital, between 11.00am and 3.00pm.
