Men jailed for drugs offences

Two men who were found with almost ?18,000 worth of drugs have received substantial jail sentences from the High Bailiff.

Dean Christopher Karlsen, 22, from Croxteth in Liverpool admitted four offences: possessing cocaine and possessing heroin with intent to supply, and conspiring to supply heroin and cocaine.

Paul Kevin John Radcliffe, also 22 and from Liverpool, admitted possessing cocaine and heroin and conspiring to supply cocaine and heroin.

Rachel Braidwood prosecuting said the men were arrested at Santon Motel on November 15th last year, where a quantity of the drugs were found in two jackets and a holdall.

The drugs had a street value of ?17,982.

The defendants had arrived on the Island the previous day via the car ferry

The advocate for Karlsen said that his client admitted he was the instigator and he was not shirking his responsibility. Radcliffe's advocate said it was accepted that he facilitated the offences.

Both men had convictions in the United Kingdom for drugs offences.

Karlsen was sentenced to nine years in prison and Radcliffe was given five years. Both men were excluded from the Island for five years after they have served their sentences.
