OFT concern over price rises

The Office of Fair Trading has been asked to rule on whether the new Manx Electricity Authority price rise is legal.

Chairman, John Houghton, MHK, claims some customers could have been paying the 14 1/2 per cent rise for months because of the MEA’s billing system.

Although the rise only came into force on September 1, Mr Houghton says the price hike is backdated to the last time your meter was last read.

He claims for some customers the increased prices came into effect months ago without their knowledge and says it's a very serious matter:
