Asylum seeker prepares to appeal

by isleofman.com 6th September 2006
Bangladeshi chef Mohammad Ahmed will appeal against his refusal of asylum this week.

The 39 year old is the Isle of Man's first asylum seeker and his case revealed the Island has no asylum legislation.

He is current being held at a detention centre in the north of England.

The hearing will be held on Wednesday and if the appeal is successful, he will be allowed to return to the Island to work in an Indian takeaway.
