Brewery 'not breaking law'

by isleofman.com 30th August 2006
Local brewers Heron and Brearley say they have been assured that they are not breaking the law with regard to screening television football coverage in their pubs on Arabic satellite channels.

The FA Premier League claims Sky TV holds the exclusive rights to show live games in Britain and it will prosecute any landlords switching to Arab satellite channels.

Stuart Peters reports:

Retail Operations Manager for Heron and Brearley, Chris Taggart, says they voluntarily stopped showing live Saturday afternoon football following comments in the National Trade Press sometime ago concerning the legitimacy of showing foreign channels.

However, after finding themselves seriously disadvantaged for 2 years because their competitors continued to show these broadcasts, they took legal advice on the matter and were assured that they were not breaking the law.

The company says it will now be reaffirming its position with its advisors.
