Car sharing goes online

by isleofman.com 29th August 2006
Motorists in the Isle of Man are being encouraged to get involved in a new scheme to increase the number of commuters sharing car journeys to work.

A database of drivers and would-be passengers willing to do their bit for the environment has been set up in the UK and extends to the Isle of Man.

Liftshare.com simply asks were you live - when you travel - and where to.

The database then provides a match with others making similar journeys with a view to sharing the ride - and the fuel costs.

The Island's One World Centre has been advocating car-sharing for years.

Cheryl Cousins says with a bit of give-and-take it can work very well and is a practical way to beat climate change: (second audio clip)
