MGP - Connor wins first event

by isleofman.com 28th August 2006
Irishman Shane Connor (pictured) has re-written the Manx Grand Prix record books in this morning's Newcomer's Race.

He overturned Ian Hutchinson's lap record on his second lap with a speed of 117.008 miles per hour and went on to chalk up a new race record.

He finished the 750cc class just over one minute 14 seconds in front of Sweden's Max Neilson.

Commentator Charlie Lambert paid tribute to the winner as he passed the chequered flag:

Third place went to Michael Weldon from the Republic of Ireland who snatched the final podium place from Manxman Andy Cowin after a very close last lap.
