Bus driver drunk on duty

by isleofman.com 9th August 2006
The case of a bus driver convicted for a drink driving offence while on duty has been adjourned for three weeks pending a Social Inquiry Report.

Isle of Man Transport Director Mike Ball said 51 year old Richard Faragher has been suspended since the incident and will also face separate disciplinary action.

Tests revealed Faragher had a blood / alcohol level of 128mg, just over one and a half times the legal limit.

Edward Oldham reports:

(Text of attached audio)
Faragher was driving the number 21 bus on the morning of Saturday, July 22nd.

He was followed and then stopped by police on Lord Street after they'd received a complaint about Faragher's speech being slurred and his breath smelling of alcohol.

He denied being drunk at the time but did admit to having drunk alcohol the night before.

Isle of Man Transport Director Mike Ball said this was the first such case involving a driver on duty.
