Smoking ban - more litter?

A new survey’s revealed the introduction of a smoking ban in public places could lead to greater amounts of litter on Manx Streets.

It’s likely there’ll be an increase in cigarette ends being dropped on the ground as smokers head outdoors.

The research has been carried out by environmental campaign group, ENCAMS.

It noticed the increase after research in Ireland was carried out after the introduction of a ban there.

Douglas Council are hoping to tackle this issue regardless of a whether or not a ban comes into force.

It’s launching a new poster campaign and wants to encourage businesses to use special cigarette bins.

Meanwhile, Councillor David Christian, says a new “Stubbi” pouch will soon be available for smokers:
