Votes at 16

Our 16 and 17 year-olds have a right to vote, so says the Department of Education’s youth and community advisor.

Mike Clague was speaking during a week in which proposals to lower the voting age from 18 to 16 moved a step nearer.

Last month, 81 per cent of youngsters questioned in a department poll said they would like the opportunity to vote.
