A 29 year old man who used provoking behaviour has been fined ?250 by magistrates and excluded from the Island.

Martin Murdoch Doherty of Bucks Road Douglas admitted the charge.

Beth Espey reports:

(Text of attached audio)
The offence was committed on January 14th at 8pm in the Cork and Bottle Public House, Douglas. Staff ejected the defendant and a friend because of their behaviour.

Doherty was verbally abusive to others and once outside became violent when he tried to get back in the public house. Police attended and arrested Doherty.

His advocate said the defendant's friend, who is being dealt with in another court, started the trouble. At the request of Sergeant Helen Mason who prosecuted, the magistrates excluded Doherty from the Island for five years.
She said he'd only been here for four months, and he had previous convictions.
