Castletown development

by isleofman.com 7th March 2006
A stumbling block which is threatening to undermine a proposed ?7 million development in the centre of Castletown could be resolved next month.

A meeting will take place on April the seventh between planners, Castletown Commissioners and developer Roy Tilleard over Mr Tilleard’s plans to develop 14 houses, 10 apartments, three maisonettes, and nine retail units on Callow's Yard, as well as the creation of a public thoroughfare and public amenities between Arbory and Malew Street.

The scheme has been approved and has the unanimous support of the board but planners have insisted the proposed 27 car parking spaces on the site are reserved for sole use of the residents.

Members feel that’s unrealistic during the day at a time when there’s already a dire shortage of parking in the town.

The local authority and Mr Tilleard have worked closely together on the proposals since they were drawn up.
