Make a Will scheme raises ?990 for The Children’s Centre

by isleofman.com 4th December 2012

The Children’s Centre’s ‘Make a Will’ initiative raised ?990 this year thanks to support from law firm Dougherty Quinn (DQ). For the seventh year in succession, DQ’s legal experts gave up their professional time to write simple wills for free in exchange for participants making a set donation to the charity. Since it began in 2006 the scheme has raised around ?7,000 to fund The Children’s Centre’s services for children and families across the Island.

Annemarie Hughes, Director and Head of Private Client at DQ, said:

“DQ is delighted to be supporting The Children’s Centre again this year. Not only does The Children’s Centre benefit from the initiative, but we are delighted to have been able to help so many people on the Isle of Man put their affairs in order by drafting their Wills. Our firm is committed to the provision of high quality professional legal services. DQ’s Private Client Department continues to provide our community with the best service possible and this initiative is not only a great way to support a local charity such as The Children’s Centre, but also serves as a useful reminder of the benefits of having a Will in place not least of which being the peace of mind that your estate will be dealt with in accordance with your wishes.”

Michelle O’Malley, Fundraising Manager at The Children’s Centre, said:

“Eight people came forward this year to have Wills written for them. We are extremely grateful to them for taking part in the Make A Will scheme and for the continued support of DQ. The scheme is only possible due to the expertise and generosity of their staff.”

For those who take part in the Make a Will scheme there is also the option of including a donation to the charity in their will - but this is not compulsory. The Children’s Centre needs to raise in excess of ?500,000 each year to support its projects and gifts in wills are an important source of funding.
