Manx Telecom supports Age Isle of Man with broadband sponsorship

by isleofman.com 5th December 2012

Manx Telecom is supporting Age Isle of Man by sponsoring broadband services at two of the charity’s Lifelong Learning Centres.  Age Isle of Man provides services and information for anyone over the age of 50 and anyone with a disability. Manx Telecom is providing free broadband at two of the charity’s Lifelong Learning Centres - one at the charity’s headquarters in Drinkwater Street, Douglas, and one at Ramsey Town Hall. The Lifelong Learning Centres provide members with practical advice on how to use a computer, access the internet or use social media.  The centres also provide advice to members on how to use mobile phones.

George Quayle, Chief Executive Officer of Age Isle of Man, said:

“By the end of this year we will have had more than 5,000 visitors at our Lifelong Learning Centres. Broadband access is essential for providing members with the opportunity to develop their computer skills or to learn from scratch. The services we provide are particularly important to people who don’t have internet access at home. We’re delighted that Manx Telecom is continuing to support such a worthwhile service which benefits older people across the Island.”

Manx Telecom has donated free broadband to Age Isle of Man for the past three years and also provides mobile internet access for the charity’s Community, Health, Advice and Training Bus - known as the CHAT bus - which travels to communities across the Island serving as a mobile meeting place and offering a range of services including computer training.
