Academic Excellence at Capital International Group

by isleofman.com 5th December 2012

Anthony Long, CEO of the Capital International Group (CIG) of companies is delighted to announce the recent academic success of Vaughan Paddock, Antony Kelsey, Cathryn Floate and Karen Yeo.

Vaughan who has been with the company for two years working within the finance department qualified in September as a chartered accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).  This involved 3 years of extensive technical work experience and several exams covering a range of topics such as ethics, law, accountancy, business valuations, financial management, business strategy and taxation.

Antony has been with the company for two and a half years and has passed, with distinction, the Level 6 Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment Private Client Investment Advice and Management (PCIAM) qualification.  As Head of Business Development, Antony spends a great deal of time with IFAs in the UK and the Isle of Man and has seen the drive amongst IFAs to meet the Level 4 minimum qualification requirements of the UK's Financial Services Authority Retail Distribution Review.  It is for this reason that Antony has sought to keep his own qualification at a similar level to CIG’s IFA clients.

Cathryn was awarded an MBA in Business Management from Liverpool John Moores University this October. Being fortunate enough to study for this on-island at the International Business School, meant that over the last two years Cathryn could work simultaneously for CIG learning and gaining experience as she studied.  Cathryn has most recently joined the Business Development and Marketing team having gained experience in most areas of the of the Group over the three years she has been with us.

Karen first came to CIG on a placement as part of her BA Hons in Business Studies, also at the International Business School.  She soon proved herself as an invaluable asset, which led to her being employed as a full time member of the finance team following her internship; both during her final year of study and after its completion. Following her graduation Karen has returned to her home country Malaysia with the intention of pursuing a career in London, Hong Kong or Singapore for which we wish her the best of luck.

As part of their courses, both Cathryn and Karen were required to produce a fully-fledged academic dissertation on a subject relevant to their respective degrees.  Cathryn provided a very detailed report on Corporate Social Responsibility in Small to Medium Sized Enterprises on the Isle of Man and in contrast Karen wrote about the effectiveness of Strategic Implementation in Business.

Anthony commented “It has been a huge commitment for all four, not only in terms of learning time and examinations, but also in terms of the volume of coursework output required. We, at the Capital International Group, are all very delighted for the four of them and proud of their achievements”.
