Social care minister praises Atos assessment scheme

The six month trial of a private firm commissioned to assess an individual's capability to work has gone 'very well indeed' according to social care minister Chris Robertshaw.

Reviewing the progress of the assessment project currently being carried out by Atos Healthcare, Mr Robertshaw described the firm's work as 'extremely valuable' for the Island.

He admitted that Atos Healthcare has attracted a lot of negative publicity in the UK for the way it has carried out its assessments, but said his department chose to ignore reports from elsewhere and make up its own mind.

Mr Robertshaw says the Island needs to change it's mindset as to how the social care system works with a determination to focus more on outcomes for individuals:
