Robin Daykin passes away

by isleofman.com 6th December 2012

The sidecar and road racing worlds have lost a unique character with the passing of Robin Daykin.

Mr Daykin, from Turriff in Aberdeenshire, and his wife Annette only took up sidecar racing as a hobby in their retirement from a life of farming a croft.

In a few short years they went on to become a fixture in the TT paddock and a firm fans favourite.

In 2011, they achieved their dream of competing in and finishing a TT sidecar race.

Although their 27th position and 88.803mph average speed were relatively modest in comparison to others, 'Team Past It' received a richly deserved ovation from the crowds in the grandstand.

Mr Daykin, who was 75, passed away in hospital on Wednesday after battling cancer for several years.

He leaves his wife, Annette, and children Tree, Damian and Nicola as well as a huge number of friends and fans.
