Treasury Minister welcomes falls in unemployment and inflation

by isleofman.com 7th December 2012

Treasury Minister Eddie Teare MHK has welcomed latest statistics showing reductions in unemployment and inflation in November.

The total registered unemployed stood at 1014 at the end of the month, a fall of 51 and representing an unemployment rate of 2.3%. The RPI annual inflation rate was 2.9%, down from 3.1% in October.

Minister Teare commented: ‘The news on both inflation and the job market is good and brings some cheer at the start of the festive season.’

“2012 has been a tough year but it is testament to the underlying strength of the business economy that the November unemployment figure of 1014 is only 43 higher than where it stood at the same time in 2011’.

He added: ‘The cost of living continues to hold steady at around the 3% annual rate of inflation and in fact over the last six months prices have gone up by less than 1%.  This can only help consumers and business in the current economic climate.’
