Douglas run into trouble at Oswestry

by isleofman.com 8th December 2012

Promotion chasing Douglas slipped to their second defeat of the season at Oswestry in South Lancashire/Cheshire Division Two, losing 20-12 and not even picking up a bonus point.

Douglas trailed 15-0 at half-time and, after leaking a second half try against the run of play, found themselves 20-0 down.

They dominated the last 15 minutes and picked up tries from Daryn Thompson and Steve Tansell, the latter converted by Bryn Snellgrove, but it was too little too late.

Vagabonds, meanwhile, re-established themselves at the top end of the table with a bonus point win against third placed Dukinfield, winning 30-26 at Ballafletcher.

Vagas’ tries came from Steve Gawne, James Clarke, Akkie van den Berg and Ross Pullman while the reliable Jonny Beckley kicked two penalties and two conversions as Vagas survived a late comeback from the visitors.

Ramsey eked out another win beating Oldershaw 23-20 at Mooragh Park to ease themselves further away from the relegation zone.

A first half try from John F Watling, plus a penalty and conversion from Andy Cleator, gave Ramsey a 10-6 half-time lead.

Lance Wyllie added Ramsey’s second try after the break and Cleator was on target with a conversion.

Oldershaw managed to snatch an equaliser and a late Cleator penalty was needed to secure the win.
