Regeneration to the Courthouse gardens in Ramsey, specifically the area around the war memorial, has attracted further praise.
Following a letter to Ramsey Town Commissioners from Isle of Man Preservation of War Memorials committee member Hector Duff in October expressing his pleasure with the project, the committee’s vice-chairman Richard Ronan MHK has added his congratulations. Mr Ronan wrote:
‘The Committee wished to reiterate the comments made by Mr Duff and to pass on its congratulations to all involved in the regeneration work taking place around the Ramsey War Memorial. Part of the remit of the Committee is to encourage the proper maintenance and upkeep of Memorials and members were all heartened to see the improvements unfolding surrounding the Ramsey Memorial.’
Ramsey Town Commissioners’ chairman captain Nigel Malpass said: ‘I was pleased to receive Mr Ronan’s generous comments on behalf of the many partners involved in realising this forward-looking scheme that is revitalising the town centre. The area encircling the war memorial has been sensitively upgraded and provided a suitably dignified yet contemporary setting in which to honour the fallen on Remembrance Sunday.’
Captain Malpass comments were echoed by Ramsey Chamber of Commerce chairman Chris Blatcher who added: ‘The regeneration of the town is gathering pace and sending out an unequivocal message that Ramsey is very much open for business.
