A leaflet providing advice on dealing with flooding of homes, businesses and roads has been produced by the DoI and the Water and Sewerage Authority following the recent severe weather conditions.
The leaflet contains information on preventative measures and practical advice on what action to take during a flood event. There are also key points to take into consideration when driving in flood conditions.
The leaflet is available online on the Department’s and the Authority’s websites and copies of the leaflet are available at the following locations:
- DoI Reception and the One Stop Welcome Centre at the Sea Terminal
- DoI Reception at Murray House
- Water and Sewerage Authority Offices at Tromode
- Libraries
- Local Authorities
John Houghton MHK, Chairman of the Isle of Man Water and Sewerage Authority, said: ‘Judging from the scale of flooding in the UK in recent weeks, and instances of localised flooding in the Island, it is evident these occurrences are happening on a more regular basis. We would recommend that everyone picks up one of these leaflets which detail a few basic measures which can be taken to better protect you and your property against flooding’
Minister for Infrastructure, David Cretney MHK, added: ‘A number of local businesses were affected by recent flooding, which caused damage to property and loss of products. This demonstrates the devastating effects that floods can have, and we would encourage the public to read this new leaflet and familiarise themselves with the advice it gives. They are quite simple measures, but many people are not aware of how to prevent flood damage or how to cope during a flood, so this leaflet will hopefully provide households and businesses with useful advice as well as the contact numbers for assistance during a season of unpredictable and often extreme weather conditions.’
