Christmas message from the Central Neighbourhood Policing Team

by isleofman.com 14th December 2012
The number of people visiting Douglas town centre is on the increase as people visit for Christmas shopping, functions and nights out.  Police officers from the Central Neighbourhood Policing Team will be deployed at key locations at peak times in order to ensure that everyone stays as safe as possible during this busy period.

The Christmas drink-drive campaign is in full swing and additional patrols will be focused on ensuring that those who take a chance are held accountable for their decisions.  The devastating effects of a drink-driving conviction are well known and the police are appealing to drivers to heed the warnings that have been well publicised.

The Police have been working closely with the licensing trade to ensure that responsible drinking is encouraged.  Staff employed at licensed premises are expected to be vigilant in reporting any adverse incidents to the police.

Head of Central NPT Inspector Phil Shimmin commented: “I am appealing for party goers to be aware of their limits when it comes to alcohol consumption. Often we end up dealing with people who have over indulged and put themselves in a vulnerable position. Those who drink to excess and commit offences can expect to be arrested and may end up appearing in court.  In this event, offenders may fund themselves banned from licensed premises.  On behalf of everyone in my team, I’d like to wish everyone a safe and happy Christmas.”
