Rehabilition to be criminal justice strategy focus

A pledge to reform the Island’s criminal justice system will focus on rehabilitation.

That vow from the Home Affairs Minister after a new national strategy received Tynwald backing.

Juan Watterson says he’s encouraged by colleagues’ support for plans to streamline administration, modernise processes and reduce the number of low-level offenders appearing before the courts.

One of the key areas under scrutiny is dealing with offenders after they have served their jail term.

Mr Watterson says languishing in prison cells is not always a good way for inmates to pay their debt to society:
